April 1st 2015 Nintendo Direct Recap

The hype was high and Nintendo didn’t disappoint. This post will allow you to simply read about everything confirmed if you are at work or unable to watch the direct for whatever reason.

1. Super Smash Bros for Wii U/3DS

We started off with info about upcoming Smash Bros DLC. We got a date and price for Mewtwo (April 28th, $3.99 for either 3DS or Wii U and $4.99 for both or April 15th and free if you registered both versions on Club Nintendo before March 31st) We also got info that Lucas will be dropping at some point in June for likely the same price point but not exact. We also got Mii Costume DLC which will release in Waves which you can buy as a full pack ($9.20) or individually (0.75). If that wasn’t enough Nintendo has opened a character ballot to see which characters fans want in Smash Bros as DLC. You can vote here and there are no restrictions on who you can vote for but first-party Nintendo characters are probably the most likely to get in.

2. amiibo tap: Nintendo’s Greatest Bits

Basically the masterpieces section of Smash Bros. for Wii U but with amiibo. It will be available on Wii U for free sometime this Spring.

3. Mario Maker

Nintendo showed off a few new items you can use and strongly implied there wouldn’t be any more level styles aside from the 4 we’ve already seen. We also finally got a general launch month of September and that Nintendo would be using Mario Maker in the coming months to celebrate Mario’s 30th anniversary.

4. Yoshi’s Woolly World

It’s been a while since we’ve seen this! We get some nice looking gameplay as well as confirmation of a new line of amiibo, Yarn Yoshi! They are actually made of wool and can act as a second player if you only have one person. I’m not sure if it was mentioned if either of the already released Yoshi amiibo will work or not so we might have to wait and see.

5. Splatoon

We finally get a release date (May 29) We also got confirmation of a Splatoon amiibo line that when you scan will unlock special missions in Splatoon relating to your figure (seems weird as there’s an Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy and Inkling Squid) and you can unlock custom items. I’m not sure if these will essentially be different cosmetics to other costumes or if they’ll be completely unique. We also got a new mode that is 1v1 local multiplayer called Battle Dojo. Where instead of attacking each other you try popping the most balloons. I find it weird the event happened only a couple weeks ago as so much stuff that was said has been contradicted now.

6. Nintendo 64 and Nintendo DS games added to Wii U Virtual Console..

Fans have been requesting them and they’re finally here (to kick some tail!). Starting today you can get Super Mario 64 (N64 version) and Yoshi’s Island DS and down the road you can get Wario Ware Touched! on April 19th and Donkey Kong 64 on  April 16th with many other games coming soon. Also if you own the Wii version of a N64 game the upgrade will be $2.

7. Indie Games

Lot’s of indie stuff, a lot is already out on other things or had no new info so I’ll be brief. They focused on Adventures of Pip, Octodad: Dadliest Catch, Mutant Mudds: Super Challenge (includes cross buy and a loyalty discount for those with Mutant Mudds already) and Don’t Starve: Giant Edition (for a limited time comes with a free code to give to a friend.

8. Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem

Remember this? We finally got footage although we still know very little about it. I really like the art style and music.

9. Fatal Frame for Wii U

Fans have been requesting it for a while and nice to finally have it delivered I guess. I know nothing about this series and the press release I was sent kind of skims it so I guess that’s all I can say.

10. BOXBOY!

A game made by HAL that has been out in Japan for a while. It has 150 puzzle style levels and releases April 2nd.

11. Pokemon Rumble World

Someone at Nintendo decided Pokemon is the best franchise to make free to play with Micro-transactions as that’s exactly what this is. Launching on 3DS on April 8th it appears to feature all officially released Pokemon from Gens 1-6 including Mega Evolution which is cool.

12. Puzzles and Dragons Z + Puzzles and Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition

Another game to finally get a date of May 22nd. You can also pre-order it here now and if you absolutely need you Puzzles and Dragons fix a demo will release April 30th.

13. Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains

You take the role as your favourite character from the show/manga to try to save humanity (not sure how this works if you favourite is random man #42 that dies in episode 1) in 4 player online and local co-op (not sure about single player). The first 2 episodes of the anime are also available on the 3DS eShop for free (with the entire series on Crunchyroll and Netflix which are on the Wii U) if you’d like to give the show a shot before getting the game, although it’s unlikely you’ll be into this game if you haven’t seen the show, it’s nice none the less.

14. Codename S.T.E.A.M.

There will be some updates released and starting today until April 5th there is an online tournament called “Hijinks” based on Tom Sawyer. Nintendo also confirmed Marth amiibo will be re-released in May with no date given (Probably May 29th to go with Splatoon and Wave 4)

15. Streetpass Mii Plaza Updates

There are 2 new games and a paid premium mode. The games are either $4.99 separate or $7.99 together. In Ultimate Angler you go around Streetpass Islands trying to catch fish (and a legendary monster) using bait you get through Streetpass. In Battleground Z where you have to fight off zombies using items you get through the hobbies of Miis you Streetpass with. If you pay $4.99 you get access to a VIP suit to store 100 Miis and the ability to record birthdays of people you Streetpass with.

16. Xenoblade Chronicles 3D

Pretty much just the launch trailer and recap of the new features we already knew about getting ready for the launch on April 10th.

17. Fire Emblem

Titled “if” in Japan and still called “A New Fire Emblem Game” according to the press release, features you choosing if you want to join the Hoshido side for a more traditional Fire Emblem experience or the “Noir” side for a more difficult time and complex story. We also got a launch window of 2016.

18. Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer (and amiibo cards)

If you like the decorating part of Animal Crossing and hate everything else this is the game for you. Animals will request you design houses for them and you do this using amiibo cards by scanning them on the New 3DS/XL or using the NFC amiibo scanner which will launch the same day as the game this fall.

19. Mario Kart 8

The DLC is arriving earlier than expected on April 23rd and along with it comes a new update which adds support for new amiibo to unlock new Mii costumes as well as adds a brand new mode, 200cc mode, Luckily the Sonic amiibo will work so we truly can go fast! This update will be free whether you are planning to get the DLC or not.

Well that was a lot! What did you think of this new style? More personalized than copying the PR but easier to find what you want than individual articles.
