Recently spotted by users on Reddit,the latest PS3 firmware update has quietly enabled wireless pairing of the DualShock 4. Though the controller has always worked through wired connection, the cable supplied is very short.
The PS3 does infact view the DualShock 4 as a generic controller, so there might be some games that don’t work. As well as, motion and rumble not working. But what you lose in fuctions, you gain in comfort since DualShock 4 is arguably more comfortable than DualShock 3 ever was.
The DualShock 4’s pairing is managed through the PS3’s Bluetooth device management menu. Here’s a video by “TheSixthAxis” as he explains how it’s done.
