The title may seem too good to be true, but it is actually happening! A private college in Illinois is offering a program for video gamers to become athletes just by playing video games and is even offering scholarships!
The Associate Athletic Director of Robert Morris University, Kurt Melcher, is a gamer himself and thought that students who excel at playing certain video games deserve to be on a professional team. Now, you’re probably asking yourself, “What game would ever be considered a sport?” Well, it’s none other than the hit multiplayer-online battle arena game from Riot Games: League of Legends. League of Legends has been revered as such an intellectually challenging game to the point where the United States government deemed the Championship Series as professional sport! There’s even talk of it becoming an Olympic Sport (but, we’ll keep that on the hush-hush).
